    Greg Yang graduated as top second in his grade from Shanghai Maritime University for the major of shipping business in 1982 and was awarded the degree of M.A. in Economics. In 1983, he was admitted to Shanghai Maritime University majoring in maritime law. In 1986, after three years of studying law, he was awarded the degree of L.L.M. and was assigned to work in the Ministry of Communications. He was admitted to the bar in 1988. He was in charge of drafting and examining maritime law and other laws and regulations concerning water transport, and marine transport safety in the Ministry of Communications. He became the division chief of the Legal Department under the Ministry of Communications in 1990. From 1989 to 1992, Greg Yang was trusted with an important task, namely becoming a primary drafter of China Maritime Code at the Legislative Bureau under the State Council. He was invited to the law school of Tulane University of Louisiana in the United States as a visiting scholar in 1992. He was a visiting attorney in practice in several law firms in New York, Philadelphia and Seattle in 1993. After coming back to China, Greg Yang assisted in founding the Jiao Tong Law Office under the Ministry of Communications and was vice director of the law office. In 1997, as the initiatory partner, he founded Hai Tong & Partners with other lawyers and became the director ever since.

    Benefiting from his solid education background and the legislation experience, Greg Yang knows the law of marine transportation very well and has substantial experience in handling disputes of bill of lading and charterparty. Several cases tried in the Supreme Court of China and handled by Greg Yang, such as "GOLDEN DOVE" (regarding the effect of the incorporated clauses in B/L), "Henry Hardson Bridge" (delivery of cargo without bill of lading/time limitation) and "WAN SHENG" (qualification of consignor as subject of action of carrier) as well as Xiamen Prime vs. Maersk Line (China) Shipping Co., Ltd (public carrier) had great effect on the trial of similar cases in later stage. In addition, he has plenty of experience in handling marine accidents, such as “CMA DJAKARTA”, "HANJIN PENNSYLVANIA" explosion of dangerous goods, “Xin Tai Hai” collision and "CMA DJAKAPTA", and "TASMAN SEA" oil spill.

    Greg Yang is an arbitrator of China Maritime Arbitration Commission and executive director of the China Maritime Law Association. In recent years, Greg Yang has been invited by the Supreme People’s Court many times to discuss with the judges and provide legal opinion to the Supreme People’s Court when the latter try complicated cases. Greg yang is also the Chinese legal counsel for the International Group of P & I Clubs as well as the Chinese legal counsel for all global container liner conferences (rate discussion agreements).

    Tong Mei graduated from Dalian Maritime University in July 1995 and was awarded L.L.B. in international maritime affairs. During the period from September 2001 to October 2002, she studied in the University of Southampton of the United Kindom, majoring in maritime law and was awarded L.L.M.. In June 2006, she was awarded master degree in economic law from the Renmin University of China. During the period from 1995 to 1998, she worked in the China Shipowners Mutual Assurance Association, in charge of handling the incidents insured by the ship members of Shanghai and the East of China, and settling claims as well as contacting foreign lawyers and correspondents about the incidents occurred there.     Typical cases that Ding Xiangfei handled include: represented the owner of MV ISABELITA before the Supreme People’s Court and successfully defended against a claim raised by consignee who signed B/L in a mala fide manner acting agent of charterer, subject amount involved in this case exceeded RMB40 million; represented owners of MV GREAT OCEAN and MV STX HORIZON to handled first instance, second instance and retrial instance (Supreme People’s Court) proceedings in respect of imported soya bean shortage claim; represented a terminal company that affiliated to Tianjin Port (Group) and successfully defended against an importer for a cargo claim with amount about RMB50 million; represent a terminal company that affiliated to Tianjin Port (Group) and realized lien right quickly through special procedures, this is the first case of quick realization of lien right accepted by Tianjin Maritime Court after the coming into force of new Civil Procedure Law; represented terminal company to handle disputes over port operation contract arising from bankruptcy of Hanjin Shipping; represented shipping company to handle bunker payment dispute arising from bankruptcy of Danish OW Bunker; represented owners of MV RICKMERS HAMBURG to handled a case of ship collision, whereby he properly resolved claims resulting from deaths of 3 seamen of the opposite ship; represented owners of MV AIKON to handled a case of imported bulk cargo damage.

    Xiangfei Ding is dual-qualified as a licensed lawyer and a certified translator. He speaks fluent English, over half of his clients are foreign companies and enterprises, and has rich experience in working with international law firms.
