At the “2024 North Bund Forum”, the Ministry of Transport and the Shanghai Municipal Government signed a new round of cooperation memorandum to jointly promote Shanghai to become a world-leading international shipping center. The forum, themed “Digital, Intelligent, Green”, aims to facilitate the digitalization, intelligentization, and green transformation of the shipping industry.
Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng emphasized that Shanghai will enhance the allocation capability of shipping resources, improve the port system, accelerate the development of high-end shipping services, and promote industry transformation. During the forum, representatives from global maritime and aviation enterprises and institutions released the latest achievements and discussed technological innovation and cooperation.
Liu Wei, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Transport, pointed out that China's shipping industry ranks at the forefront of the world in terms of facility volume, maritime transportation, and fleet size, with the levels of digitalization, intelligentization, and greening of shipping continuously improving.
Over the past year, Shanghai Port has been the world’s number one in container throughput. The opening of the Luojing Port Area has increased efficiency, international cruises have resumed, and the first domestically produced large cruise ship has been put into operation.
Faced with global maritime industry risks, industry representatives believe that greening, digitalization, and intelligentization are inevitable trends. Wan Min, Chairman of COSCO Shipping Group, proposed that the shipping industry needs to focus on new models, new technologies, new tracks, new structures, and new rules.
Gu Jinshan, Chairman of Shanghai International Port Group, stated that ports will transform into “green intelligent hubs”. At the forum, Shanghai Port and Hamburg Port jointly built a green shipping corridor, and COSCO Shipping released the “Supply Chain Control Tower” to promote digital transformation.
The signing of this cooperation memorandum marks that both parties will jointly support the construction of shipping hubs, the upgrading of service industry levels, and the development of green, intelligent, and safe shipping, thereby promoting the quality and upgrade of Shanghai’s international shipping center.
